Hong Kong's Edges

At the edges of Hong Kong, landscapes have gone through gradual change and lost their rural character. Because of their relatively low density development and surviving heritage features, these areas are in between-spaces that don’t fall into the usual categorisation of “urban“ or “rural”. They are the fringes. They are chaotic, dislocated and yet have a common identity. I am trying to comprehend that incomprehensible identity.

The reminiscences of life that overlap with the signs of pending or ongoing demolition make these last traces of human presence even more vivid. They constitute Hong Kong’s collective memories, but in and of themselves are an addition of unique stories.
